Senior Accountant
The primary responsibility of the Sr. Accountant is to perform reconciliations and prepare journal entries in order to assist the Accounting Manager and Director in ensuring the integrity of the Financial Reporting and Accounting system. The Sr. Accountant is also responsible for providing assistance to the Accounting Manager in preparation of financial statements, interfacing with internal and external auditors, and other duties as required for maintaining the efficiency of the Accounting Department.
Location: This position is located in the Corporate Headquarters, Denver, CO.
Duties and Responsibilities: The following items are expected to be completed on a regular basis to fulfill the requirements of the above mentioned position:
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules according to month-end close schedule.
• Assist with analyzing financial statements on a monthly basis and report on variances.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
• Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis.
• Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures.
• Prepare and enter journal entries for month-end close.
• Update accounting and marketing systems with foreign exchange rates daily.
• Team with the AP and Scheduling departments resolving pricing and volume issues.
• Ensure crude oil settlements are processed timely and accurately working within tight deadlines monthly. Work closely with counterparties resolving and tracking discrepancies as they occur.
• Assist in the documentation and monitoring of internal controls.
• Prepare, review and record derivative transactions for realized and unrealized gains and losses for the marketing companies.
• Assist in the design, development, and implementation of the accounting system control procedures.
• Improve processes and provide quality control.
• Work closely with Tax department to reconcile tax accounts in the general ledger and provide information necessary for the timely completion of the tax returns.
• Assist in the preparation of work papers, reports, and schedules for auditors.
• Assist customers (internal and external) with requests for information.
• Other projects as assigned.
• Perform all above requirements in a safe, thorough, and responsible manner.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Bachelors degree or higher in Accounting, CPA preferred.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting theory.
Qualifications/Skills and Abilities Requirements:
• Experience in the midstream oil, trucking/logistics, or natural gas liquids industry preferred.
• Proficient with computer usage especially in Oracle, Microsoft office, and email.
• Right Angle software experience preferred.
• Lease revenue distribution systems (RDS) knowledge a plus.
• Highly detailed and organized, able to meet assigned deadlines.
• Must possess the ability to work independently with minimal direction from manager.
• Must possess the ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically and creatively, draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
• Ability to communicate effectively both in written and verbal form possessing excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
• Serve as a representative of the company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions.
• Contribute to a positive work environment and be willing to participate in the solution process.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
